This is a classic tale set in 17th century Paris. Renowned for his charm and bravery, the swashbuckler Cyrano de Bergerac believes that his enormous nose makes him unloveable. While secretly in love with Roxane, he agrees to help his rival, the handsome Christian de Neuvillette win her heart. The poetic powers of Cyrano's letters signed in Christian's name causes Roxane to swoon and fall deeply in love with Christian. While Christian and Cyrano are called away to war, Roxane continues to receive Cyrano's letters signed in Christian's name. Roxane can no longer tolerate being apart from Christian and she drives through enemy lines to see him again. When Christian realizes the power that Cyrano's letters have had over Roxane, he realizes that it is Cyrano's qualities that she loves, not his own. He tries to convince Cyrano to tell Roxane the truth. Before Cyrano can come clean, Christian is mortally wounded and dies happily because Cyrano said, "I have told her; it is you she loves." For several years to come, Cyrano visits Roxane regularly without ever having told her his secret. Unbeknownst to Roxane, Cyrano is dying and when he recites Christian's last letter to her, Roxane realizes that it is Cyrano that she loves.

The legendary romance about a quick-witted swashbuckler whose nose is as big as his heart

Set during the reign of Louis XIII , Cyrano de Bergerac is a play about one of the most estimable characters in literature. Desperately in love with the beautiful Roxane but convinced she will never look past his titanic proboscis, Cyrano helps the tongue-tied Christian pen exquisite verse with which to woo her. Presented in an elegant new translation, this comic adventure continues to be popular for its dramatic power and, above all, its magnetic hero.
