      • bioText: Biography Visit my website at www.hubertcrouch.com THE LAW I graduated from Vanderbilt University (B.A. 1973) and then obtained my law degree, Order of the Coif, from the Dedman School of Law, Southern Methodist University (J.D. 1976). Since graduating from law school, I have been a practicing trial lawyer in Dallas, Texas. I am a founding member, and partner, of Crouch & Ramey, L.L.P. More information about my practice, as well as the firm's, may be found at the firm website, www.crouchfirm.com THE BOOK "Cried For No One" was inspired by (though not based upon) an actual case I handled years ago. Under cover of night a young co-ed's body was disinterred and later discovered on the side of a rural county road. Understandably, the case generated considerable media attention with reporters inquiring as to who could have committed such a horrid crime and why. I retained retired FBI psychological profiler, Clint Van Zandt, to review the police investigatory files with an eye toward answering those questions. In the interim, I filed, and argued, a motion to have the case dismissed on substantive grounds. The presiding judge granted my motion and the case was dismissed. No one was ever charged with the crime. The "who" and "why" questions were never answered. Months after its resolution, I continued to think about the case. As a result, I decided to write a work of fiction in which I would create the characters and actually solve the crime. Finding time to write while juggling an active trial docket and the day-to-day responsibilities of managing a law firm proved difficult. As a result, it took me over fifteen years to complete the manuscript. As stated earlier, the novel is not intended to solve the crime that formed the basis for the actual lawsuit. It is entirely a work of fiction, the only common thread being that a young co-ed's body was stolen and a lawsuit ensued. THE MUSIC I have played guitar since 1964. My first guitar was a "candy apple" red Fender Mustang (the same guitar currently played by Norah Jones). I was a member of various bands throughout my teenage years. I worshipped the Stones and The Beatles (and still do). After graduating from law school, I formed a band composed primarily of lawyers. We played for over thirty years for private parties and wedding receptions throughout Dallas/Fort Worth, our repertoire consisting of rock and roll from the Sixties. About five years ago, one of the band members suggested that I give songwriting a try. Since that time, I have written, or co-written, over twenty songs, five of which (and one Beatles cover) are featured on this website and will be available for purchase on iTunes later this month. THE CLASSROOM Approximately five years ago, I treated one of my Vandy professors to dinner. He had made such a favorable impression on me during my Vandy years, and was largely responsible (or to blame) for my decision to attend law school. During our dinner, he suggested that I consider teaching. Subsequently, I submitted my resume to the chair of the Communications Department at SMU's Meadows School of the Arts, who elected to give me an opportunity to teach one class. Two and a half years later, I had taught Free Speech and First Amendment, Legal Advocacy, Public Speaking, and had served as faculty advisor for the undergraduate mock trial team. I was also part of a faculty team that developed the curriculum for an undergraduate pre-law minor. In the spring semester of 2012, I received the Rotunda Outstanding Professor Award - an award voted upon solely by the students. Being able to interact with, and influence, these young men and women in a positive way has been one of the most rewarding endeavors of my professional career. THE F...
