Description
Scope and content: Records of the Woodmont Garden Club of Nashville, Tenn., including a minute book (Jan. 1960-June 1973), a 1973-1974 yearbook, and 35mm color photographic negatives of a meeting held on July 10, 1967 at the home of Mrs. Wade (Rebecca) Young. Minutes include date and location of meeting; reports from committees; program topic and speaker; notices of prizes, competitions, and shows; and other club business. Occasional social news is included, as well as frequent mention of other clubs and the botanical gardens at Cheekwood. Some looseleaf pages were removed from the minute book and are housed with the yearbook and negatives in a separate folder.

Biographical or Historical Data
The Woodmont Garden Club was organized in 1941. By 1974, it was a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, and the Davidson County Horticultural Society. Its purpose, as given in a 1973 version of its consititution, was "the advancement of gardening, development of home grounds and furthering city beautification, and wild life and birds."

Ownership and Custodial History
Unknown provenance. Mrs. Wade (Rebecca) Young's name appears prominently throughout the materials. She was an officer in the organization, and may have been the donor. Rebecca Whitsitt Young (Mrs. Wade Young) donated other materials on other subjects to the Special Collections Division of the Nashville Public Library.
