Description
Scope and content: Biography of Capt. William Driver, who is credited with giving the American flag the nickname of "Old Glory," and his family. Also includes a biographical sketch of C. Primo Bartolini, an Italian immigrant who became an American citizen, and who, in 1931, built his house on the foundation of Driver's home. Details about both men's homes are provided. Bartolini worked for a while with the Works Progress Administration, and a short biography of State coordinator, Harry S. Berry, is also included.
Description
Four black and white photographs are pasted into the book. One image is taken from Mr. Mary Jane Driver Roland's book about her father, entitled "Old Glory, the True Story" and is a photograph of the old Driver homestead. A second image shows Primo Bartolini in front of his home, presumably in 1937. Two images are of Driver's tombstone in Nashville City Cemetery.
Description
The narrative history is supplemented by summaries and abstracts of deed and city directory research by the author. Various addresses of the same property through the years are given as: 1860-1865 - 158 S. Summer St.; 1872-1882 - 241 S. Summer St.; 1884 - 323 S. Summer St.; and the address at the time of Cullom's writing in 1937 - 511 Fifth Ave. S.
