Description
When Lord Peter Wimsey and his friend Chief Inspector Charles Parker meet a certain Dr Carr, they learn about the mysterious death of one of his patients some eighteen months previously. An elderly woman, she had been seriously ill for some time - yet Dr Carr believes her death was too sudden to be explained away by natural causes. Incorrigible as ever, Peter lays a bet with Charles that he can prove the old lady was murdered, and by no-one less than her own niece. Having enlisted the indomitable Miss Climpson on an undercover fact-finding mission, he sets about his investigations in deepest Hampshire. Another death soon follows, and as the plot thickens Peter and Charles begin to suspect some very foul play indeed.
