Description
Scope and content: A variety of materials concerning Native Americans throughout Tennessee and the southeast generally. Quantity of materials ranges from a single item to several folders. Most folders contain less than five items, and often only one or two items. Subjects include general writings of a historical nature; Indian organizations in the late 20th and early 21st centuries and their activities; and historical articles about Indians in the pre-Columbian era.
Description
About half of the collection contains materials about yearly powwows, sponsored by the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee (NAIA). These materials typically include programs and brochures, many of them with illustrations showing native dress, dancers, art and artists. Most of the powwow materials span 2007-2009, with one program from 1984.
Description
Indian organizations documented in the collection include: Alliance for Native American Indian Rights; the Red Road; Native American Community Partnership of Tennessee (NACPOT); and the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee (NAIA).
