Description
James Knox Polk (1795 – 1849) is often considered the last strong pre-Civil War executive, and is well known for both his annexation of Texas and the Mexican-American War. Prior to being elected President, Polk served as Governor of Tennessee and as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This work brings together President Polk’s four State of the Union Addresses delivered between 1845 and 1848 -- from Publisher's website.
