Description
Scope and content: Four paperback scrapbooks containing news clippings from circa 1950 through circa 1965 about Tennessee and Nashville history. Clippings are heavily illustrated with photographs or drawings, most in black and white but some in color. The vast majority of clippings contain no source or date information. Subjects include the Civil War, especially in Tennessee, and cover such subjects as battles, commemorative and memorial activities, the experiences of women, and more. Other topics in the scrapbooks include famous Tennesseeans, such as Andrew Jackson, notable historic sites such as the Hermitage, monuments and memorials, historic homes, flowers, and a wide variety of other subjects. It is believed that many of these clippings originated from the weekly Tennessean Sunday magazine, inserted into the Sunday paper; others were probably from the daily Tennessean or Nashville Banner newspapers.
