San Francisco homicide detective Nick Curran has a violent past, an addictive nature, and a belief he can handle anyone's darkness. His on-again/off-again girlfriend, police psychologist Dr. Beth Garner, disagrees. Upon meeting Catherine, he's mesmerized--despite recognizing that she's a sinister manipulator and possibly a brutal killer--finding her irresistible. Is she guilty? Does he care?
