Description
Scope and Content: The records consist of minute books, programs, photographs, and newspaper articles created by the Piano Study Club between 1930 and 2012 (bulk 1942-2006). The Club's activities were well documented in the minute books which begin in 1942. The Club hand-made programs (also called yearbooks) that listed the songs performed at each gathering. These programs begin in 1930 and are organized by year. Some programs were taped or glued into the pages of the minute book found in General Records 1962-1971 and these items have been moved into the program folders. The General Records include the report of the treasurer and a few photographs. Newspaper articles are included throughout the collection.

Biographical or Historical Data
The Piano Study Club was organized in 1922 and continued to meet into the 2010's. The Club admitted women over the age of 21 who describe themselves as piano lovers, hobbyists, teachers, performers, and professors. Founded with the objective of the musical advancement of its members, the group would meet once a month at each other's homes or at luncheon locations including the Pineapple Room of Cheekwood. The meetings were as much about club business as they were about social enrichment. The ladies would discuss their personal travels and share newspaper articles and books of interest. The Club collected monthly dues, a portion of which was donated to various organizations including the Nashville Symphony, the Nashville Ballet Society, the Volunteer State Music Department, the Nashville Civic Association, and the W.O. Smith School of Music. The Club also held regular programs that were open to the public. These programs often included guest performances by women from outside organizations such as Vanderbilt's Peabody College of Music and the Blair School of Music. Performances were held at different locations including the Scarritt Bennett Center and the Linden Corner School.
