A single, healthy bald eagle egg is brought to the lower forty-eight states from Alaska in the 1950s. In this time only a little over four hundred bald eagle pairs were thought to be living in the United States--the US was in danger of letting its national bird go extinct. In spite of the odds against it, this egg hatched, the eaglet thrived, and today it is one of the reasons why bald eagles have made a come back.
