Description
This production is part of a famous series produced by BBC of all of William Shakespeare's plays. The resulting films, renowned for their loyalty to the text, utilized the best theatrical and television directors and brought highly praised performances from leading contemporary actors. One of Shakespeare's most famous comedies, THE MERCHANT OF VENICE has become most celebrated for its captivating villain, Shylock. Blending tragedy and comedy, this play presents contrasts and ambiguities. The complexity lies in the character Shylock. Is he a villain, a buffoon or tragic hero?. Starring Warren Mitchell (Till Death Us Do Part), BAFTA award winner Gemma Jones, and John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings).
