Scope and content: Eighteen invitations, predominantly to weddings. Other invitations include: Phi Delta Theta public literary exercises at their national convention in Washington, D.C. in 1884, featuring music by Pellettieri's Band; Nashville Literary Club; Columbia College (N.Y.) Law School Commencement, 1882; and two invitations to art exhibitions by students of Miss Sallie Thomas' art class, 1882, 1883.

Wedding invitations include: Eunice Ward to William Day Holt, 1888; Henry Sperry to Mamie L. Jacobs, 1884; Annie Laurie Lawrence to Joshua W. Smith, 1888; Fannie Owen to Horace Lurton; Hettie Stokes to Harry Sheets; Sarah Eakin Adams to William Ewing, 1882; Laura Ewing to Thomas B. Beattie, 1882; Ida Dashiell to Evans Dunn, 1883; wedding reception for unnamed daughter of Bishop William M. Baskerville and Janie McTyeire; Charles F. Ordway to Mary Lewis Broun, 1881.

Names from other types of invitations or calling cards include: Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Lea, hosting dancing complimentary to Miss Salmons, 1884; Cillie Mottley and H. Hutton; Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Stokes; Mrs. Aline Blanders; and Miss Mary Kennedy Owen of Clarksville, Tenn.

Biographical or Historical Data
The Pilcher family was a prominent Nashville, Tenn. family. John Stuart Pilcher (c.1841-1934), whose initials appear on a list of members of the Nashville Literary Club, was a local attorney. His wife is also listed as a member of that group; she was the former Mrs. Margaret Hamilton Campbell, who predeceased him by several years. They or members of their immediate family may have been the original recipients of many of these invitations.
